Girls in Gis New York-Manlius Event – Manlius, NY

Are you ready for some great Jiu Jitsu? because we are!

Girls in Gis is a community of women and girls in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu that come together through donation based training events. They are hosted, instructed, and attended only by women and girls. It’s our time to come together! All ages and skill levels from any academy affiliation are welcome to attend. No experience required. Our events are designed for 100% participation, but do allow chaperones to accompany underage participants as spectators.

Our events are donation based in order to provide equal opportunity to everyone. Your donations provide paid teaching opportunities for our guest instructor(s) and help to expand and make Girls in Gis programs such as our events, our leadership program and instructional training programs and our scholarships possible. If you are not able to make a donation please contact us and we will work with you so that you are able to participate.

You can also purchase a GIG t-shirt, patches and more GIG merchandise with your donation. All orders can be picked up during the event.

GIG New York-Manlius Guest instructors: April Parks & Khadijah (Dijah) Peek

April Parks is a first degree Black Belt, school owner (Vien Jiu Jitsu), educator, and mom of four. Born and raised in Syracuse, NY April has always been driven by sports and competition. With a background as a Division 1 track athlete, April ventured onto the mats for the first time in 2011.

As a full time working mom, April was able to garnish 3 IBJJF World Championships at Adult (Blue Gi/Purple Gi) 2 World Championships at Black Belt in Masters, 7 Pan No Gi Titles (Adult Blue-Brown, 3rd place at Black Adult, 2 Black Belt Master Titles) and a myriad of other accolades with IBJJF. April is a Medusa CJJ veteran and the founder of Grappling Getaways, professionally organized themed travel and training camps for women.

April seeks to empower and inspire whoever she can. April has invested a tremendous amount of time in sports psychology and performance mindset.

Khadijah (Dijah) Peek is a black belt under 3rd degree black belt Matthew Secor. She started jiu jitsu in August 2014 when she realized she needed an outlet going into her second year of law school. Over the years, she had competed and placed in NAGA, Grappling Industries, Fuji BJJ, Global Grappling, IBJJF, ADCC Opens, and ADCC Trials. When she’s not on the mats, she is traveling or building businesses.

COST: $20 Min Donation. All Donations Welcome.

ALL PARTICIPANTS MUST REGISTER ONLINE. ONLINE REGISTRATION WILL BE CLOSED 9/29/24 at 12:00 PM OR ONCE WE REACH CAPACITY. WALK-INS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED ONCE CAPACITY IS REACHED.

Tickets are non-refundable, non-transferable and all sales are final. Doors open at 11:30 am. Please arrive early to change and get ready or come ready so we may start on time at 12:00 pm.
