Poetry Gallery: An Open Mic night in an art gallery where poetry, stories, spoken word and art takes center stage!

POETRY GALLERY: AN OPEN MIC SPECIAL EDITION!

Grab your poems and join us at Foundry Gallery for Art All Night! Come out for a night of warmth, passion, creativity and expression. Whether you’re a seasoned poet or just starting out, this open mic is the perfect opportunity to share your work with a supportive audience. Expect to share, experience and indulge in poetry and performance art in an intimate setting surrounded by a gallery of diverse and unique art from local visual artists. You will also have the chance to enter a raffle and win a few prizes!! Free wine and light refreshments will be served!

About the Feature

Dwayne B! aka the “Crochet Kingpin” is a homegrown DC native poet, activist, break-dancer, and fashion designer. Named DMV Best Male Poet 2021 at the DMV Renaissance Awards; Dwayne’s work has also taken the stage at the Kennedy Center, Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company, and Keegan Theatre. Dwayne has authored 3 books, One Color Kaleidoscope, twenty:21, and Breaking The Blank (co-authored with Rebecca Bishophall). Dwayne serves as a member of the Busboys and Poets hosting team for the 450K location and hosts karaoke at various places across the district.

About the Host

Amuchechukwu is an active local writer, educator and teaching artist in the Washington, D.C metropolitan area. She is a first-generation born Black American whose poetry touches on the diaspora, mental health, and the female experience. Amuchechukwu considers her poems to be still life paintings of intimate experiences, emotions and observations. She was recently announced as the winner of the 2024 DC Poet Project. Through her writing she aspires to heal, grow and inspire people from all different walks of life.

About Foundry Gallery

Foundry Gallery was established in 1971 by four students of well-known Washington, DC painter Gene Davis. For over fifty years, Foundry Gallery has supported and showcased some of Washington, DC’s most promising and accomplished artists. As a non-profit, artist-owned cooperative gallery, Foundry offers a rich diversity of original works of art and focuses on providing exposure and recognition to new and emerging artists.

Street parking is available. 24 hour parking is also available at W St & 8th St down street from the gallery for only $10. Have peace of mind knowing that your car is secure for a full 24 hours! Foundry Gallery is also easily metro accessible through U Street Metro Station on the green line.
