Join us on Thursday September 26th at 6pm for a panel with picture book authors Jamilah Thompkins-Bigelow, Sarah Jacoby, and Kat Yeh!

We are proud to introduce The Write Stuff, a new series at Barnes & Noble Philadelphia created for aspiring authors looking to learn more about navigating the route from writing to publication. The Write Stuff provides advice for writers on a wide range of topics, including general writing tips, writing for various genres, finding an agent and getting your work published.

In this installment of The Write Stuff, childrens picture book authors Jamilah Thompkins-Bigelow, Sarah Jacoby, and Kat Yeh share tips and tricks for aspiring childrens picture book authors and illustrators, followed by a Q&A from the audience and concluding with a quick and fun writing exercise.

Ticket holders will be granted a standing view from behind the seated audience — some views may be more limited/obstructed than others.

About the Authors:

Sarah Jacoby’s illustrations have won awards from the Society of Illustrators (Gold Medal), Creative Quarterly, American Illustration, and Communication Arts. She is the author and illustrator of Forever or a Day, called “elegant” by the New York Times and named an NPR Best Book of the Year. She is also the illustrator of The Important Thing About Margaret Wise Brown by Mac Barnett, which received six starred reviews, and The Rabbit and the Motorbike by Kate Hoefler, which earned four starred reviews, among others. Jamilah Thompkins-Bigelow is an educator and writer who centers Black and Muslim children in her work. She is the author of Mommy’s Khimar, Your Name is a Song, and is a contributor to the Once Upon an Eid anthology. She provides free and fun community writing programs for local youth in Philadelphia where she lives with her family.

Kat Yeh is the author of picture books Just One Little Light and The Friend Ship. She also wrote middle grade novels, The Way to Bea (starred review – School Library Journal) and The Truth About Twinkie Pie (an NPR Best Book of 2015, Chicago Public Library Best Fiction for Older Readers 2015, 2015 Texas Lone Star Reading List). Kat currently lives with her family in Philadelphia, PA.
