Join a Xerces Society Ambassador to find out how you can take steps to protect native pollinators!

We’ve all read about the declining populations of bees and other pollinators. They are clearly facing challenges from habitat loss and pesticide use, even climate change. By managing our gardens, parks, and other greenspaces with pollinators in mind, however, we can transform our towns and cities to support the insects that are essential for a healthy environment—and if we all do something, together we can have a big impact. This presentation will discuss who these pollinators are and direct steps we can all take to support them in our gardens, on our properties, and beyond.

Speaker: Jennifer Flitton Adams is the President of the Northern Shenandoah Valley Master Gardeners unit. She is a Master Naturalist and an Ambassador for the Xerces Society for the Conservation of Invertebrates. Jennifer is an Associate Professor of Theatre/Costume Design at Shenandoah University.

What to expect: A lecture-style talk.

Who can come: This program is designed for adult audiences.

Where to meet: Meet at the Blandy library in the Quarters building. Signs will direct you from the front parking lot near the flagpole and information kiosk to the library.

Eco-friendly Landscaping for your Backyard Series: Join us for a series of workshops on how to establish and maintain an eco-friendly, economical, low-maintenance yards. The goal of this series is to increase the amount of suburban and urban land that can support and sustain a variety of wildlife and ecosystems, with ultimately less maintenance required. There will be opportunities among participants to share success stories, discuss challenges, and learn from experts and from one another.
