Description of the course: NRA FIRST Steps Pistol is designed to provide a hands-on introduction to the safe handling and proper orientation of handguns.

Full Description: NRA FIRST Steps Pistol is designed to provide a hands-on introduction to the safe handling and proper orientation of various pistol action types. This course is at least three hours long and includes classroom and range time. Students will learn the NRA’s rules for safe gun handling; the particular pistol model parts and operation; ammunition; shooting fundamentals; cleaning the pistol; and continued opportunities for skill development. Students will receive the Basics of Pistol Shooting handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet, FIRST Steps Course completion certificate.

Cost per student: $75

Any prerequisites to attend the training: Must be at least 18 years old. Under 18 MUST have written consent from Parents or Legal Guardian.

Things a student must bring to the training:

A safe, functioning and reliable pistol such as a 22lr, 380mm, or 9mm semi-automatic pistols are preferred. A 22lr pistol and ammunition will be available to use if needed.

25-50 rounds of ammunition (No reloads)

Range-appropriate clothing; long pants, a comfortable shirt, and athletic shoes. No open toed shoes, no low-cut clothing.

Rain gear if needed

Clear wrap-around ballistic eye protection

Hearing protection (electronic recommended)

Water & snacks

Notebook with pen/pencil

A positive attitude and a willingness to learn all you can to be a responsible handgun owner

Anything a student should do in preparation for the training: Talk to a friend/family member about taking the class with you. It is always fun to have someone you know in class.
