Since 1997, PHAZE II has been providing Smooth and Funky Jazz sounds on the local music scene in the Washington, DC area, by honing its craft of delivering quality music to their listeners. PHAZE II has embarked on a journey to show the world the many talents that this jazz band has to offer.

PHAZE II has travelled around the world with award-winning Jazz and R&B artists and is sought after as the premier backup band for performances in the Washington, DC area. Their unique style, versatile sound, and creativity continue to make this band a powerful force in the music industry

Brent Birckhead

Brent Birckhead, an award-winning artist, embodies a dynamic fusion of traditional and contemporary styles, transcending genre boundaries with his woodwind artistry and composition. Rooted in a profound reverence for musical legacy and driven by an innate compulsion for creative risk-taking, Birckhead’s artistic journey reflects a visionary approach to life as a rising leader.

Educated at Howard University, earning his BME and MM degrees, Birckhead honed his craft and established himself as a formidable talent. During his time at Howard, Birckhead received accolades including “Best Blues/Pop/Rock Soloist” and “Outstanding Instrumental Jazz Soloist” by Downbeat Magazine, and was named “Best Alto Saxophonist” by the Washington City Paper.

Karen Linette

One never knows what type of seed is planted until that flower blooms. The vocal botanics that emerge from Karen Linette was recognized long after her first presentation to her mother, when she and her older brother would perform songs that were played during her childhood. That radiance developed into an organic sound, establishing Karen as the go-to person for vocals in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area.

Giving her fellow local musicians more than twenty years of experience as a singer and collaborative artist, she has also shared the stage with national recording artists such as Norman Connors, Dawn Robinson of En Vogue, Cece Peniston, Club Nouveau, Case, Miles Jaye, Anthony David, Miki Howard, Regina Belle, Tom Browne, Dexter Wansel and numerous others.
