2024 Northern Navajo Fair Parade Application

INSTRUCTIONS:

Select an entry category below with the applicable fee(s). You may request a preferred location in the parade; however, we cannot guarantee the spot. We will accommodate your request as much as possible. Parade numbers will be assigned on a first-come, first-serve basis by Parade Category. Please total the amount due in the space provided below.

  • Non-Tribal Organizations $500 + online service fees
  • Political – Non-Candidate $500 + online service fees
  • Political – 1 Candidate per float $1,000 + online service fees

NORTHERN NAVAJO FAIR PARADE RULES, REGULATIONS, AND GUIDELINES

  • The Parade will begin promptly at 8:00 A.M., October 5, 2024. Parade line up will commence at 5:00 A.M. at the East side of Shiprock by the Fleet Management. All Parade Entries MUST begin line-up by 6:00 A.M. or the Parade Entry may FORFEIT its space.
  • Parade Entries MUST have the original ASSIGNED NUMBER at the time of line-up. Copies and digital versions will not be accepted.
  • DO NOT LOSE YOUR ASSIGNED NUMBER as it designates your category and your place in the parade line up. ABSOLUTELY NO DUPLICATE OR COPIES OF NUMBERS WILL BE GIVEN OUT.
  • The parade route is approximately three miles long. Parade Entries are responsible for providing transportation from the Finish Line for all participants.
  • ALL Parade Entry participants must always cooperate with the Parade Committee and Volunteers.
  • All Participants must have a signed release prior to the parade. ANY participant under the age of 18 must have a signed release from the parent or legal guardian.
  • Each Parade Entry is responsible for supplying water and first aid to its participants.
  • Each Parade Entry must be equipped with a 5lb. Fire extinguisher with a valid service tag (expired tags will not be accepted). The tag shall be inspected by the Parade Committee.
  • One (1) NON-Motorized Parade Entry is defined as: one (1) wagon plus four (4) walkers or five (5) horseback riders, one (1) marching band, or up to twenty (20) walkers.
  • One (1) Motorized Parade Entry is defined as: one (1) float or vehicle plus at least four (4) walkers/participants or one (1) vehicle or ATV.
  • One (1) royalty, one (1) band, or one (1) organization with no more than fifteen (15) walkers/participants constitute one (1) Parade Entry regardless of the Parade Entry’s motorized or non-motorized status.
  • Parade Entries MAY NOT be a combination of two (2) or more vehicles or a string of vehicles, horseback riders or ATV’s, etc.
  • Parade Entries MUST always stay within thirty feet (30 ft.) from the entry in front during the parade. Parade Entries may not stop once the parade begins. Media interviews during progression of the parade is strictly prohibited.
  • All participants on Parade Entries must be secured. Any participants sitting on the hood or cab of a vehicle must sit on a non-skid material to prevent slips and/or falls while vehicle is in motion.
  • Any participant under the age of 12 must ride on a Parade Entry. NO children under the age of 12 may sit on the hood of a vehicle. Only Participants over the age of 12 of age may walk.
  • ABSOLUTELY NO ITEMS MAY BE TOSSED FROM THE PARADE ENTRY. ANY PARADE ENTRY TOSSING ITEMS WILL BE DISQUALIFIED. Promotional items and giveaways must be distributed by walkers/participants at a safe distance no less than five feet (5ft) from moving Parade Entries. Items include, but are not limited to water, candies, snacks, fruits, flyers, pamphlets, etc. School supplies or fruits recommended.
  • All Parade Entries will be judged within their respective categories using established Judging Criteria based on dress and /or appearance appropriate to the fair theme and originality.
  • ALL Navajo Nation Laws will be ENFORCED. The Navajo Nation is NOT liable for any accident(s), injuries, or other caused during participation in the Parade. Law enforcement will be on site.
  • All Parade Entries using livestock as part of the Parade Entry MUST follow Navajo Nation Animal Importation Requirements.
  • Parade Entries must provide current proof of vehicle insurance at time of the parade and vehicle must be in safe operating condition. Parade Entry drivers MUST have a current, valid state driver’s license. Trailers must have appropriate safety chains and light hook-ups as required by Motor Vehicle Codes.
  • All expenses incurred from a vehicle breakdown or accident before, during, or after the parade is the OWNER’S responsibility.
  • All participants are to abide by the Navajo Nation Covid 19 Protocols, all floats must have Hand sanitizers and face masks.

** Note: Political & Royalty entries allow only 1 candidate/royalty per float**
