Join us for a captivating conversation about sustaining a long and highly decorated artistic career. Alarmel Valli, a renowned Bharatanatyam performer, guru, and speaker and Uttara Coorlawala, a leading dance scholar will delve into her long career.

Discover how her unique perspectives on dance, dance documentary, sangam poetry and how literature influences her artistry, her collaborations, her teaching and dance pedagogy, and her advice for younger dancers. This interactive session will include opportunities for audience participation and Q&A. Whether you’re a seasoned professional or a curious beginner (we recommend at least 8 years of dance training), this Meet and Greet session will be an enriching experience.

Alarmel Valli was the second youngest dancer to receive Padma Shri from the Government of India in 1991. She received the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 2001 by India’s National Academy for Music, Dance and Drama. In 2004 she received the Padma Bhushan award from the Government of India in 2004 and also the prestigious Chevalier of Arts and Letters award from the Government of France. Since the age of sixteen, when she first performed at the The Theatre de la Ville in Paris, Alarmel Valli has danced at many landmark international venues, like The Bolshoi Theatre, the New York International Festival of Arts, the Kennedy Centre, the Venice and Lyon Biennales, The Avignon Festival, the Munich Opera Festival, the Edinburg Festival and the Salzburg Festival, to name a few.
