We invite you to join us for an engaging conversation with Lavere Foster, Maria Garcia and other local nonprofit leaders about the challenges fundraising poses for people representing historically excluded populations, and how one might break through barriers in philanthropy. Our visionary speakers will share their triumphs and lessons learned.

Lavere Foster, a graduate of Buffalo State University with a master’s degree in Higher Education and Student Affairs Administration, is the Associate Director of the African American Community Service Agency (AACSA) in San José, California. He oversees the development and expansion of programs that support the African American community, including STEAM education, leadership academies, and cultural festivals. Previously, Foster served as AACSA’s Policy and Advocacy Coordinator and gained valuable experience as a legislative aide in Miami, working with Mayor Oliver Gilbert III and the Miami-Dade County Board of Commissioners.

Maria Garcia, Director of Grantmaking, The Health Trust
Maria Garcia is responsible for the strategic planning and management of the agency’s Grantmaking department. In her role, she communicates the agency’s grantmaking priorities to the community, provides technical assistance to prospective applicants, and supports grantee partners in meeting their project goals. Maria joined The Health Trust in February 2010 as the agency’s Grants Administrator. She possesses over 20 years of nonprofit experience that includes managing direct services, board relations, community engagement, and fundraising.
