Ontario: Winter Segway Tour at Henry of Pelham Winery – Ontario, Canada

EXPERIENCE

Everyone will meet in the main parking lot of the Henry of Pelham Family Estate Winery in St Catharines. Each person receives an individual training on how to ride a Segway and enough time to practice. Once everybody feels comfortable you will start the tour.

There is a lot to learn about the rich history of the Pelham family and it can be traced back to the revolutionary war. The first stop is along raws of Cabernet Sauvignon to learn why winegrowers used to put rose bushes in their vineyards. The family cemetery is another stop to discover the graveyards of Henry and Catharine Smith and learn how they are still celebrated in today’s wines.

The Niagara escarpment is a tremendous part of what defines Niagara, this tour explains how it impacts the climate and how it helps make it the first winery region in Canada and produces some of the best wines in the world. There is also a description of the modern growing techniques and how the terroir has a major effect on the wine.

On the way back, there will be a pause to talk about the native animals of the region, Niagara is home of 300 species of birds, some of them staying all year long.The world renowned ice wine is a big part of the Niagara Region, this tours details how it is produced and why the Niagara region is the perfect place for it.

Last but not least: the wine tasting. The Wine shop, originally a tavern built in 1842 by Henry of Pelham, is where a tasting of three different wines of your choice takes place, including their signature Baco Noir and their ice wine. So if you are looking for fun things to do near Niagara Falls this winter, look no further.
