EXPERIENCE:

Embark on a fascinating culinary and cultural adventure through some of the most emblematic markets in Mexico City. This walking tour will take you to explore La Merced, the Mercado de Sonora, and the Mercado de San Juan, where you will discover an astonishing variety of ingredients, typical dishes, learn about in different religious practices and culminating in a tasting of different mezcals.

Itinerary:

Meeting Point:
We will meet in a central and accessible location in the city. Our expert local guide will welcome you and provide a brief introduction about the history and importance of markets in the daily life of Mexicans.

La Merced:
Our first stop will be La Merced, one of the largest and oldest markets in Mexico City. Here you can stroll through its lively aisles, observe the sale of fruits, vegetables, meats, and spices, and taste some antojitos such as tacos, quesadillas and delights like tamales and atoles

Mercado de Sonora:
Next, we will head to the Mercado de Sonora, famous for its wide range of esoteric products and items for traditional rituals.

Mercado de San Juan:
Our next stop will be the Mercado de San Juan, known for its gourmet and exotic offerings. Here you can taste high-quality and exotic meats, as well as try less common products like edible insects (chapulines, chicatanas and worms). This market is a paradise for food lovers.

Mezcal Tasting:
To culminate our tour, we will go to a nearby mezcalería where a master mezcalero will welcome us. We will have a tasting of different mezcals, learning about the various types of agave, artisanal production processes, and the characteristics that distinguish each variety. The tasting will be accompanied by a pairing with selected foods, such as artisanal chocolates and fresh fruits, and even bugs! to highlight the flavors of the mezcal.
