What led to the murder of Maurizio Gucci, the grandson of Guccio Gucci? Learn this and other interesting and controversial facts about top Italian designers from Florence on our fashion-themed walking tour! Discover flagship stores of popular Italian brands such as Gucci, Ferragamo and Pucci, fashion museums and iconic landmarks of Florence!

We begin our 2-hour walking tour in front of the Pitti Palace, situated on the south side of the Arno river. Here, our Expert Guide will tell us about the Renaissance palace, and earlier in at Villa Torrigiani, organized by the fashion pioneer Giovanni Battista Giorgini inside this beautiful Renaissance palace, and earlier in at Villa Torrigiani, which some say was the beginning of Italian haute couture. They will also give us some insider’s tips on visiting the Museum of Fashion and Costume, housed inside Palazzo Pitti.

We’ll then cross the river and head to the historic Old Town of Florence, admiring the amazing statues of prominent figures (and their clothes), such as Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, and Galileo, in front of the Uffizi Gallery. This will give you some insight into what people used to wear back in the day. We’ll also learn about the high-end Italian fashion house of Roberto Cavalli, whose grandfather’s work is exhibited at the gallery. Next, we’ll wander around Piazza della Signoria, home to a replica of the statue of David, Vecchio Palace and the Gucci Garden – a museum dedicated to the iconic fashion of Gucci.

Our tour will pass Museo di Palazzo Davanzati, an art museum with a lace exhibition, and explore Florence’s shopping district. The guide will show us the first store and a museum dedicated to Salvatore Ferragamo, an innovative footwear designer whose clients include Audrey Hepburn, Andy Warhol, Princess Dana, and Margaret Thatcher. We’ll also see PUCCI Firenze, the flagship store of Emilio Pucci’s fashion house. Did you know that he helped Benito Mussolini’s eldest daughter escape to Switzerland when he was a member of the Italian Air Force during World War II? Hear the fascinating story of how Pucci, a former war prisoner, began designing for fashion icons such as Marilyn Monroe and the First Lady Jackie Kennedy.

In the last part of this exciting tour, we’ll take a closer look at the history of Gucci and the controversy revolving around the murder of Maurizio Gucci. You’ll discover little-known details of this infamous family feud, and see Gucci Firenze Flagship and Via della Vigna Nuova, where the first Gucci store opened in 1921.
