Take in the most spectacular sites in Angkor, the greatest temple city ever. Create the best of times while exploring world history.
Angkor Wat is an astonishingly large and ambitious complex, symbolizing the power and majesty of the ancient Angkor civilization. You will start the day off here; it’s the ultimate introduction, where time no longer matters. You and your guide will stop for breakfast when you’re ready.
Angkor Thom was the capital of the Angkor Empire. The road takes us through the famous South Gate, home to gods and demons locked in an eternal tug-of-war. The temple of Bayon at the center of the site is lined with countless beatific carved faces, gazing eternally at the surrounding forest.
Ta Prohm is a picturesque and attractive ruin, partially retaken by jungle. It is also known as ‘the Tomb Raider temple’, made famous by Angelina Jolie in the 2001 film.
Ta Keo was never finished and, as such, has a very different aspect from most of the Angkor temples. With a square, layered pyramid shape, it’s one of the more dramatic sites on the tour, and climbing the terraces affords the most beautiful views in Siem Reap.
Banteay Kdei is also known as ‘the citadel of monks’ cells’. It is partially overgrown with towering, sinewy trees. The silky cotton tree roots weaving their way through the stones of the ruined walls are a famously delightful sight.
Along with lots of great information, your guide will be quite happy to take photos for you to keep as memories. And after the guided tour, you will be taken back to your accommodation, inspired by one of the seven wonders of the world.
