Rome: Walking Tour with Local Guide - Rome, Italy
  • Anywhere

EXPERIENCE:

Among the anecdotes of Rome are the Talking Statues, 6 statues scattered around Rome that were famous because the Romans expressed their opinion on important people through inscriptions placed on them. Start the tour from Piazza di Spagna, a stone’s throw away from which you will find the Baboon Statue, named after the fact that it was not exactly beautiful. Continue to Via del Corso and turn onto Via Lata where there is the funny statue of the Porter, now a fountain where you can drink. Then reach Piazza del Campidoglio and in the courtyard of the Capitoline Museums admire the most impressive talking statue, the Marforio statue representing the Tiber. Move towards Palazzo Venezia where there is the Statue of Madama Lucrezia, named after the noblewoman who lived in the palace next door, walk past the Church of Sant’Andrea della Valle and discover the Statue of Abbot Luigi, which probably owes its name to the fact that there was an abbot who looked like it at the time. Finally, a stone’s throw from Piazza Navona is Pasquino’s most famous bust, which owes its name to the Pasquinate, satirical verses found right next to it.
