National Maritime Museum and Greenwich Tour - London, United Kingdom
  • Anywhere

EXPERIENCE:

Visit the National Maritime Museum in London, the world’s largest maritime museum, on a 3.5-hour tour designed for lovers of all things naval and maritime. Experience 500 years of British naval power and traditions.

The Museum houses over 2 million artifacts from which exhibitions are drawn.

On your tour you’ll see Turner’s wonderful painting of the Battle of Trafalgar, which he completed in the 1820s. The king at the time, who had the painting commissioned, was apparently not impressed with Turner’s realism depicting the horrors of war. For this reason the masterpiece is not hidden away in a royal palace, but is on display in a public museum.

You’ll also be able to visit the Nelson, Navy, and Nation gallery with its paintings, weapons, and exhibitions about Horatio Nelson. See the jacket Nelson was wearing when he was shot and killed by a sniper in 1805. His body was brought back to Greenwich to lay in state, in the Painted Hall, for 3 days as thousands of British citizens came to pay their respects.

Visit the poignant Atlantic Slave Trade Gallery as well.

Midway through the tour, you’ll stop at the smart Museum café, where you can enjoy tea, coffee, and other refreshments.
