The collection included many Italian art masterpieces taken from churches and monasteries that were suppressed at the time when Milan was the capital city of the Kingdom of Italy. Among the artists of the museum are: Gentile da Fabriano, Mantegna, Bellini, Tintoretto, Bramantino, Piero della Francesca and Raffaello Sanzio, Caravaggio, Tiepolo, Tintoretto.
