Florence: Small Group Guided Walking Tour - Florence, Italy
  • Anywhere

EXPERIENCE:

The guide will give you an overview of the history of this Renaissance city from the meeting location and explain how the incredible cultural movement of the Renaissance changed not only Florence but ultimately the rest of Europe.

Piazza Della Republica, Florence’s central square and the first stop on the tour, will be discussed. You will proceed directly to the magnificent work of art, the Piazza Della Duomo, after a brief discussion of the history and changes that Piazza Republica has undergone since it was founded.

The David sculpture by Michelangelo (the original is in the Galleria dell’Accademia) is placed outside the Palazzo Vecchio as a symbol of the Republic’s defiance of the tyrannical Medici. The guide will lead you straight through the old buildings and some historical landmarks of Florence to the Palazzo Vecchio. The Uffizi Gallery, one of the greatest museums in the world, will then be discussed as you pass the Palazzo Vecchio, and you will then arrive at the “Ponte Vecchio,” the most well-known old bridge in Florence.

Your next stop is the enormous Palazzo Pitti, one of Filippo Brunelleschi’s and the Pitti Family’s (later the Medici family’s) residences and one of Florence’s largest architectural monuments. Before making your final stop the guide will discuss the artists, architects, thinkers, and political figures who contributed to the Renaissance and were born in the same century in and around Florence.
