EXPERIENCE

We start in Valdez, a picturesque port surrounded by mountains and glaciers. Valdez is known for its natural beauty and access to Wrangell-St. National Park. Elias. Don’t miss the Valdez Museum to learn about local history and the Exxon Valdez oil spill. Did you know that Valdez is the northernmost port in North America that remains ice-free year-round?

From Valdez, we traveled to Chitina and McCarthy, historic towns that are gateways to Wrangell-St. National Park. Elias. McCarthy is a charming mining town where you can explore the ruins of the Kennicott Mine, which mined more than $200 million in copper and silver between 1911 and 1938.

Wrangell-St. Elias is the largest national park in the United States, with more than 13 million acres. Here you can hike, climb mountains or marvel at glaciers. Don’t miss Root Glacier for ice hiking. This park is home to nine of the sixteen tallest mountains in the United States, including the second tallest, Mount Saint Elias.

We continue towards Thompson Pass, famous for its spectacular landscapes and high snow accumulation, ideal for skiing and snowboarding. Thompson Pass holds the record for the largest 24-hour snow accumulation in Alaska, with 62 inches (157 cm) in 1955.

Our next destination is Fairbanks, known for its vibrant culture and proximity to the Arctic Circle. Explore the University of Alaska Museum of the North and the Yukon River National Reserve. Fairbanks is one of the best places in the world to see the Northern Lights.

Delta Junction is the terminus of the Alaska Highway and an important historical point. Visit the Rika House and learn about the life of the pioneers. The Alaska Highway, completed in 1942, connected Alaska to the rest of the United States.

Finally, we arrived at Keystone Canyon, famous for its impressive waterfalls such as Bridal Veil and Horsetail. This canyon is perfect for ice climbing and hiking. Keystone Canyon was the site of the “Battle of Keystone Canyon” during the gold rush in 1907.
