Buenos Aires: Private Jewish Heritage Tour – Buenos Aires, Argentina

EXPERIENCE

At 09:00 AM we will pick you up at downtown hotels in Buenos Aires to begin our tour visiting the Plaza de la Memoria, which is the place where the Israeli Embassy in Argentina was located. In 1992 a bomb destroyed the Embassy building, taking the lives of 29 people and injuring more than 200. Nowadays, in that place there is a square inaugurated in the year 2000, which has a monument to the victims and to the State of Israel for the attack. Linden trees were also planted in memory of each of the people who died there.

Our tour will continue visiting the Temple of Liberty (Synagogue of the Israelite Congregation of the Argentine Republic), which is where the “Congregación Israelita de la República Argentina” (CIR) operates; being the largest and oldest Jewish temple in the country. It was declared a National Historic Monument in 2000.

Afterwards, we will visit the neuralgic point par excellence of the daily life of the Jewish Community in our country: the AMIA (Asociación Mutual Israelita Argentina), the new headquarters of the Jewish Community in our country, which was created to carry out all the necessary activities to fulfill the Jewish traditions. We will learn about its functions, initiatives and its history, which is very important for all Argentines.

Finally, a highlight is the visit to the neighborhood of Once: the quintessential neighborhood of Buenos Aires where most of the Jewish community is located. In the neighborhood you can visit synagogues, restaurants and markets belonging to members of the community, such as the Paso Temple, which is one of the most popular temples visited in Buenos Aires.

The Great Paso Temple, founded in 1930 and with capacity for 2000 people, is one of the oldest synagogues in Argentina and the most beautiful in South America. It was the site of the first Talmud Torah (house of religious studies) in the city of Buenos Aires.

Finally, after four hours visiting these important places for the Jewish Community in Buenos Aires, we will be returning to our downtown hotels.
