  • Anywhere

EXPERIENCE:

Although the Cupola’s exterior is spectacular, you must ascend its 463 steps to get a close-up look inside and take in the breathtaking view of Florence.

Find out how Brunelleschi created and constructed the Cupola in 1418. On your way up, learn why the hallways are so small and take in Giorgio Vasari’s frescoes of the Last Judgment (1572–9). Look down to see the balcony that was begun in 1507 but never completed, located on the base, directly above the drum. Your guide can fill you in on the fascinating tale of the balcony and the unfinished eighth side.

The panoramic view of Florence city that you will see once you have reached the cupola’s top will mesmerize you. Your guide will discuss the culture and history of this Duomo Square and respond to any inquiries you may have.
