In the spring of 2024, singer-songwriter Jerry Leger recorded some Hank Williams compositions in the intimate atmosphere of his Toronto apartment.These home recordings turned into the tribute album Why Should We Try Anymore, a digital-only Bandcamp release. Selections from the album were also made available on a limited edition 10″ Vinyl record.“This was a fine break from reality for me”, says Jerry, reflecting on the passion project. The recordings made on an old 4-track tape recorder are dedicated to his grandfather, Richard Johnston, who introduced Jerry to Williams’ music. “When he wasn’t listening to ball games on the radio, it was Hank.”Becoming more serious about songwriting in his teens, Leger returned to the music of Hank Williams and heard it differently and deeper. Williams’ would turn into one of Jerry’s favourite artists and biggest influences.
