Nat Bolden & the State of Mind Blues Band at The Back Room – Berkeley, CA

Born in Pine Bluff, AK in 1928, Nat Bolden left for California in 1950, becoming a welder and a businessman. Soon he became a part of the burgeoning Oakland Blues scene, and a few years later, when the hub of that scene – the “Black entertainment district” on 7th St. – went into decline (a clear victim of “urban renewal”), Nat took over as owner of the ‘Til Two Lounge on 66th Street.

By then, he was performing in clubs and BBQs throughout the Bay Area and beyond. His comic approach and smooth voice and moves has made him a popular entertainer to all ages. And, speaking of age… the Oakland blues scene of the 50’s and 60’s was an important part of Blues history. Very few of those musicians are still around – and Nat, at 96 years old, has been around the longest.

Come and witness for yourself the distinct Oakland flavor that blues fans have been enjoying for decades in the nightclubs and festivals of Northern California.

Tickets are $25 general admission. Children under 12 are free. Advance tickets are available here, or if the show is not sold out, you may purchase your tickets at the door before the show.

Doors open one half hour before show time. We accept cash or Venmo only at the door.
