Like the dazzling art of quiltmaking, Oh, Rose is a project that has been sewn sonically from prized scraps of memories and moments. The genres of informed pop, rock, and singer/songwriter are embedded in the fabric, but the main thread is modern indie pop with a pulse.Oh, Rose began as Olivia Rose Huebners solo project. When Olivia moved to Olympia from Asheville, NC, she started attending an acoustic open mic called Song Church and hanging out at The Guest House, a hub of the Olympia music community and vessel to many house shows and recording projects. When Olivia began planning a solo tour back home to North Carolina, the original and stillremaining creative members of Oh, Rose naturally gravitated into the band. The band is Liam Hindahl on drums, Vin Christopher on bass, Stevie Smith on keys, and Laith Scherer on guitar. They recorded their first EP, That Do Now See in the basement of The Guest House on a 4-track and released the record independently in 2014. Receiving attention on Reddit and Bandcamp earned them a tape reissue with the UKs Fox Food Records. Oh, Roses first full-length studio album, Seven, was recorded at bassist Vin Christophers own Heavy Meadow Studio, and released independently as well. The band became linked to Future Islands when frontman Samuel T. Herring watched an Oh, Rose music video and retweeted it.They struck up a friendship and Herring offered Oh, Rose their first support slot for the Future Islands regional tour in 2017.The bands second full-length, While My Father Sleeps LP, was recorded in Olympia at Heavy Meadow Studio in 2019, and was picked up and distributed by Park The Van Records. That same year, the band also performed live for a KEXP session, and toured with Yeasayer as well as embarked on their second tour with Future Islands.Their third tour with Future Islands was in 2021 immediately following the lockdown, and the band stepped out of isolation into the biggest shows theyd play yet, opening at venues like The Filmore and The Greek. In January/February of 2022, the band began working on their upcoming Dorothy LP in several Portland studios; Ruby Machine, Trash Treasury, and the relocated Heavy Meadow Studio. They toured Canada in May of 2022 with Future Islands.Oh, Rose celebrates their 10-year anniversary this June with a reissue of their first EP, That Do Now See, on cassette through Antiquated Future. Their third full-length album, the Dorothy LP,was released through Antiquated Future both digitally and on vinyl in September2024, just in time for their fifth tour with Future Islands.
