The tour starts right in front of the Cholula train station where Carmen, the archaeologist and Jaime, the chef will be waiting for you.
The first stop on the tour is the Sanctuary of Our Lady of the Remedies, which is the famous church built on top of the pyramid. You will visit the church, learn about its history, and enjoy a stunning panoramic view of Cholula, Puebla, and the volcanos. Then you will walk around the Prehispanic center of the city and learn all about the ancient city of Cholula. You will get to taste a traditional beverage called pulque and a be offered a snack while you admire the ruins and the pyramid.
From there you will walk through one of the oldest neighborhoods in Cholula on the way to the San Gabriel Complex, the oldest Spanish Church in the city, where you will learn about the history of Cholula’s market from Prehispanic times to the present. You will then visit the local market, discover the variety of fresh seasonal ingredients, and observe local customs and practices. Finally, you will taste some of the most authentic flavors of Cholula, enjoying local recipes that have been made for generations. The food tour can be adapted for vegetarians and vegans.
The walking tour ends at the Municipal Market in San Pedro Cholula.
