From acclaimed storyteller Emory Jones, Cheever unfolds over one pivotal day in the life of North Georgia folk potter Cheever Meaders (1885–1967). Set in his pottery shop in 1967, two weeks before his passing on Thanksgiving, the play brings to life Cheever’s wit, history, and heritage through an imagined encounter with Dr. John Burrison, a modern-day pottery expert who regrets never meeting him.
Through humorous and heartfelt dialogue with his wife Arie – and guided by recollections passed down from his grandfather – Cheever struggles with the fading legacy of handmade pottery in a world increasingly dominated by modern methods. Audiences are immersed in the culture, music, and spirit of North Georgia’s past.
