Come join us for a cozy day of love letter writing at 4308 Burns Ave. Grab your favorite pen, some cute stationery, and get ready to spread some love! In the modern era, so many of our expressions of love, support, encouragement are communicated digitally. Inspired by the letters written by Pat Parker and Audre Lorde documented in the book Sister Love, we’re hosting an event where we write letters to our loved ones that they can hold and revisit like the pages of a good book. Whether you’re writing to your significant other, best friend, or even yourself, this event is all about celebrating love in all its forms. Expressing the gratitude we feel for the members of our community and sharing our experiences is critical to perserving. So come on over and let’s get those pens moving!

We’ll have some poetry readings throughout the day, the playlist bumping, and some other goodies still in the works. (Line-up currently under construction.)

At our first event, we were lucky to be blessed with the presence of poet Carmalita Wilson who has since passed. In honor of her vibrant and kind presence, we’ll have an altar set up for anyone who’d like to bring photographs and/or write letters to Black women/gnc/trans community members who have passed.

What to bring (all optional):

• A homie
• A photo of a Black woman/gnc/trans community member that you would like to honor on the altar or anything that you’d like to place on the altar (flowers, etc)
• Anything you feel might jazz up your letters – the gel pens in your closet from high school, the sticker packs you keep buying and forgetting in your drawer
• Letters (Digital/ Physical) that you’ve read or received that have spoken life into you, given you encouragement, helped you feel loved, that you’d like to share on the mic.
• A book to donate to the library

• Colored pencils
