What is beatboxing???
Beatboxing is the art of making music and beats with nothing but your body (mostly the mouth) and a microphone. If you like EDM, HipHop, or music in general then you will definitely like beatboxing! It’s an accessible artform, needing no additional equipment to get started, and is enjoyable to practice, perform, and witness.
How does the competition work???
The West Coast Champs crowns three winners each year, one in each distinct battle category:
SOLO BEATBOX BATTLE – 12 Beatboxers face off in a series of 1v`1, single elimination battles. Battlers are given 3 minutes each per battle to showcase their best material with nothing but a microphone with no FX.
LOOP STATION BATTLE – 4 Loopers face off in a series of 1v1, single elimination battles. Battlers utilize a loop station to produce mind-bending beats and routines live with no pre-recorded sounds or samples.
7 TO SMOKE BATTLE – 8 Beatboxers face off in a series of 1v1` battles. This King of the Hill style battle is fast paced and fun! Winner stays on, loser moves to the back of the line. The first competitor to reach 7 victories wins the entire competition.
How can I join the competition???
Entries are closed for the Solo and Loop Station categories, but you can still join the 7 To Smoke Battle!
Auditions for the 7 To Smoke will be held at the start of both event days – Anyone can sign up and take their chance to join the competition with a 90 second beatbox routine. The best 7 beatboxers who sign up for the 7 To Smoke will join the battle!
Is the event all ages???
Yes. We will be serving alcohol, but U21s will be identified with an X on the hand or special wristbands. U18s must come with a parent or guardian.
