Learn the history of the meaty sandwich that became the hamburger, with Chris Carosa and John Menches and the CHNY Annual Business Meeting.

Many claim to have invented the hamburger, but who was it who first placed a patty between two pieces of bread? Award-winning author Chris Carosa will separate fact from fiction as he debunks popular myths surrounding the burger’s origins. Then John Menches, a descendant of Charles Menches, who, along with his brother Frank, is widely recognized for selling the first hamburg sandwich at the 1885 Erie County Fair in Hamburg, New York, will share family stories as well as the original hamburger recipe. Join us to celebrate the anniversary of the day that hamburger was sold as well as National Cheeseburger Day.

Chris Carosa is an award-winning author and an authority on the history of the hamburger. His meticulous research has unearthed fascinating insights into the origins and evolution of this iconic American food. He is the author of Hamburger Dreams: How Classic Crime Solving Techniques Helped Crack the Case of America’s Greatest Culinary Mystery. The great-grandson of Charles Menches, John Menches continues his family’s culinary legacy by sharing the authentic taste of their original recipe hamburgers.

Before the presentation, we will have our annual business meeting.
