Tasting Dinner featuring Frida Kahlo’s favorite Recipes at Conejo – Richmond, VA
Don’t miss this upcoming event in Richmond, VA. Happening on Monday, September 15, 2025 at Conejo. Doors open at 6:00 PM.
In celebration of Mexican Independence Day and the VMFA’s exhibit, Frida: Beyond the Myth (through September 28), Chef Danny Mena will host a 5 course guided dinner featuring some of Frida Kahlo’s favorite traditional recipes from Casa Azul, her childhood home. Dr. Sarah Powers, curator of the exhibit, will join the dinner and share notes about this exqusite show.
Born and raised in Mexico City, Danny Mena is a partner at Conejo and the chef behind our menu. He has a wealth of knowledge about agave spirits and Mexican cuisine and culture which he shares in his cookbook, MADE IN MEXICO.
Tickets are $110 per person and include tax and gratuity.
The featured menu includes mezcal, tequila, and cocktails and features the end of summer bounty!

Squash blossoms stuffed with ricotta, crab, and equites emulsion
Memelitas en Salsa Verde
Grilled pork stewed with wild shiitake mushrooms in salsa verde
Pescado al Chile
Roasted halibut on a bed of summer beans with gold bar zucchini and peewee potatoes fermented with mild salsa roja
Panceta de Cerdo
Slow roasted pork belly with garlic chile sauce, kabocha squash, rice pilaf , heirloom beans
Pastel de Queso
Horchata Cheesecake wtih cinnamon
The dinner sells out quickly so be sure to purchase tickets for your group together at one time. Seating is limited to 30. Communal tables will be set up on our covered patio. Parking is available on the street and behind the building in the garage.
