Bioregions & Living Systems
Social movements are needed now more than ever. As the climate crisis deepens, political systems falter, and our extractive economies threaten the very fabric of life on Earth, people everywhere are rising to meet the moment and asking a crucial question: What comes next?
Join us to explore this question with Brandon Letsinger, a longtime champion of Cascadia and founder of Cascadia Now! and the Department of Bioregion. Brandon will share his over two-decade journey in grassroots organizing and reveal the bold vision behind Regenerate Cascadia, an ambitious effort to build regenerative systems at a bioregional scale.
After Brandon’s talk we’ll dive into a Q&A to explore how the bioregional movement offers a path forward. Key topics we’ll explore include:
How do we build coalitions across borders, identities, and belief systems?
What does it mean to live bioregionally in a time of ecological and societal transformation?
Global issues like climate change and economic inequality can feel overwhelming. The bioregional framework breaks these down into a local scale where real, measurable impact can be made. It empowers communities to become self-reliant and develop solutions tailored to their specific place.
What comes after extractive economies, centralized power, and broken systems?
The Role of Watershed Regeneration: Strong community relationships are needed to restore our relationship with the land and water that sustain all life. This work focuses on the revitalization of forests, rivers, and soils to build a healthier, more resilient ecosystem for everyone.
Weather and time permitting, we’ll end the evening with a fireside chat.
The Department of Bioregion and Regenerate Cascadia will be sharing their work at this year’s Georgeotown Steam Plant Science Fair on September 20-21, 2025. To learn more about the Science Fair, please visit: https://www.georgetownsteamplant.org/2025
