About the show:
Washington, D.C., 1944. Jacob Greenstein, a young Jewish Harvard graduate, has just landed a position inside the White House. What seems like the start of a promising career quickly becomes something far more complicated. In the halls of power, Jacob is drawn into fierce debates over America’s response to the Nazi genocide in Europe.
At home, his ambitious wife Sara dreams of shaping history herself, while his mother Esther reminds him of the family still trapped overseas — and of the responsibility he carries as both a son and a Jew. Around him, Washington insiders wrestle with politics, prejudice, and the question of whether moral duty can outweigh expedience in wartime.
Witty, poignant, and urgent, Jacob’s Ladder reveals the little-known conversations inside Roosevelt’s administration about saving Europe’s Jews. It’s a story of conscience, identity, and the weight of choices made — or not made — in the face of atrocity.
