The Down Hill Strugglers at Tompkins Corners Cultural Center – Putnam Valley, NY
Don’t miss this upcoming event in Putnam Valley, NY. Happening on Saturday, October 4, 2025 at Tompkins Corners Cultural Center. Doors open at 7:00 PM.
Tompkins Corners will welcome back The Down Hill Strugglers, an old time string band that carries forward the sounds of the old, rural America. Their music reflects and extends the strong feeling and diversity of sounds found on old commercial and field recordings from as early as the 1920s.
Keeping that music alive with new interpretations, they have released albums on Smithsonian Folkways Recordings and Jalopy Records. They are featured on the soundtrack to the Coen Brothers film, Inside Llewyn Davis, produced by T-Bone Burnett, Dreamland, with Margot Robbie, as well as other films and video games.
“(Their new album) Old Juniper is a doozy. Old and new, evocative, current—all original. And I, as one who’s always had one foot in “old weird America” and the other in “new weird America,” love this recording. The Down Hill Strugglers have, as Nathan Salsburg put it in his notes, ‘an exquisite sensitivity to the seam where collective tradition and individual artistry meet.’ I couldn’t agree more.” – Alice Gerrard
The Strugglers are Jackson Lynch – fiddle, voice, guitar, Walker Shepard – guitar, voice, fiddle, banjo, and Eli Smith – banjo, guitar, mandolin, harmonica, and pump organ. Eli is also a music producer, heading the annual Brooklyn Folk Festival and Washington Square Park Folk Festival.
This concert will be held indoors. Light refreshments will be available.
