FAAIM x HAIBAYO : The Empathizer Film & Embarrassed by Night Comedy Show at Haibayo – Chicago, IL

The Foundation fos Asian American Media and HAIBAYO proudly present an night of humor and healing, with an exclusive screening of the documentary The Empathizer followed by a live comedy show starring the comedians from the film!

Embarrassed by Night (instagram.com/embarrassedbynight) is an all-Vietnamese comedy showcase which began in 2022, and has since proudly been featured at San Francisco Sketchfest and Houston’s HAAPIFEST. They’re making their Chicago debut at HAIBAYO, bringing their hilarious homage to Paris by Night to the awesome community of Argyle Street.

The Empathizer (empathizerdoc.com) is a playfully postmodern documentary that follows comedian Fred Le as he explores the journeys of overseas-born Vietnamese who have chosen to return to the country their parents once fled.Through intimate interviews, The Empathizer reveals the complexities of identity, belonging, and what it means to come “home”. This weekend marks the film’s official Chicago premiere.

An Eventbrite ticket gets you on the list for both the screening and the comedy show! A limited number of seats will be available at the door on a first-come, first-served basis for $30.

The Foundation for Asian American Independent Media (FAAIM) is an organization that celebrates emerging Asian American creative talent. We accomplish this by hosting various events including the annual Asian American Showcase in Chicago, and supporting artists in building a grassroots audience for their work.

HAIBAYÔ is a creative initiative that aims to energize the historic Asia on Argyle corridor through innovative cross cultural, multi-generational collaborations. Our intention is to create spaces, events, digital content, while incubating a diverse range of artists, creative, entrepreneurs, and local Asia on Argyle businesses.
