An adaptation of the Opera by Christoph Gluck for teen and pre-teen audiences

Christoph Willibald Gluck’s Orphée et Eurydice, is one of opera’s most enduring tales of love, loss, and the power of music.

At the center is Orphée, the grieving musician whose song can move both the living and the dead. His quest to rescue Eurydice from the underworld remains—but guiding him is not the gentle god of Love. Instead, Amour appears as a mercurial trickster, delighting in confusion, bending rules, and interfering in matters of the heart.

In this new adaptation by director Annie Szamosi, Amour is cast as both playful and unsettling, which highlights the dangerous edge of love: its power to save, but also to wound. Themes of trust, doubt, and temptation emerge more sharply, drawing young audiences into a world where the stakes of every promise feel urgent and real.

A Gothic fantasy for teens and pre-teens, Orphée blends opera, myth, and shadowed romance into a story where every heartbeat is a gamble—and love itself may be the greatest illusion of all.
