Camera Obscura & Listening room at The Goat Farm Arts Center – Studio 105 – Atlanta, GA

Camera Obscura & Listening room at The Goat Farm Arts Center – Studio 105 – Atlanta, GA
Don’t miss this upcoming event in Atlanta, GA. Happening on Saturday, September 13, 2025 at The Goat Farm Arts Center – Studio 105. Doors open at 11:00 AM.
Say That Studios invites visitors to take a moment out of their day for intentional slowing down, listening, and stillness by sitting in a room-sized camera obscura and sitting with audio offerings that differ for both scheduled listening rooms.
September 13th will feature sounds from inaugural Say That Studios contributors Atlanta-based DJ Jesus Niece and Champaign-based (by way of VA) artist, scholar, and educator Blair E. Smith.
The final listening room on September 20th will feature original sounds and conversations collected and stitched together by Makeda Jean Lewis.
Viewing hours will be from 11 AM – 3 PM, with dedicated “closed door” hours from 12 – 2 PM. Images from the obscura often take several seconds to show up as your eyes adjust to the light in the room, so time dedicated to keeping the door from opening and closing, therefore interrupting the pinhole, will lend itself to giving visitors the fullest experience possible.
Collaboration by Appointment
At its heart, Say That Studies intends to be a shapeshifting, collaborative and nomadic project, collecting ephemera, sounds, conversations, video, ideas, research and encouraging play. Over the course of the El Columpio residency, you are invited to schedule a time to stop by the studio to talk, share some sand you brought from the beach, make videos of you playing with legos, scream or be quiet. Visitors who agree to audio or video recording of their conversations/activities in the studio will also be asked if they’re okay with being featured in the residency closing installation. The closing installation will feature listening stations using collected housephones where visitors can select different numbers to hear audio recordings collected over the course of the residency. All reservations and collaborative playtime will be free and open to the public to participate in.
