Join us as we celebrate one year of poetry and POWER! This anniversary show is dedicated to femme freedom fighters past and present!

SET IT OFF!! We are so excited to announce it’s The People’s Open Mic 1st Anniverssarryyyy and there is so much to be grateful for. To one full year of community, poetry and power! To say thank you we tribute this Black August show to femme freedom fighters and political prisoners past and present!

This extra special show is featuring renowned poet, Bronx native and comrade in liberation Roya Marsh. We are also pleased to present the fresh on the scene lumpen poet of the people Minnie Mars!

All proceeds serving Black WTGNC incarcerated folks including the work of Black and Pink NYC + Joy Powell’s release fund! There will be additional opportunities to learn about political prisoners, write a poem/ letter and contribute to the call : Free ‘Em ALL!

FEATURING

ROYA MARSH

New York native, Roya Marsh is a poet, performer, educator and activist. She is the author of dayliGht, a finalist for the Lambda Literary Award in Lesbian Poetry and SAVINGS TIME (MCDXFSG). Roya works feverishly toward Queer liberation and dismantling white supremacy. She is the co-founder of the Bronx Poet Laureate, and leads creative writing workshops with NYC DOE, PEN America Emerging Voices, Lambda Literary’s LGBTQ Writers in Schools and Poets & Writers. Roya is the awardee of the Lotos Foundation Prize for Poetry and 2024 Bronx Recognizes Its Own (BRIO) Award from Bronx Council on the Arts.

MINNIE MARS

Minnie Mars is a cultural creative healer/educator of the black lumpen south. They are indigenous to the lower chattahoochee valley and express their experience through spoken word and song where they prioritize Nu Afrikan justice and solidarity. Free the land.
