Learn about the fighting that occurred in the Southern end of Gettysburg and how civilians coped during those harrowing three days in July 1863.

EXPERIENCE:

It was a “no man’s land” during the Battle of Gettysburg. Civilians on lower Baltimore Street and Steinwehr Avenue were trapped in the crossfire between Union and Confederate troops. On this tour you will hear about the tragic death of Jennie Wade, how civilians survived the battle, the fighting between the two sides in the streets, the aftermath of the battle, presidential visits, and some of Gettysburg’s early history.

Walk the streets of Gettysburg with an experienced licensed town guide. Group sizes are generally under ten for these tours.

This tour complements the 11:00 a.m. tour (Civilian Experience). This tour covers the Southern End of town; the Civilian Experience covers the Northern End.
