EXPERIENCE:

The worst natural disaster in the United States happened on September 8th, 1900 in Galveston Texas. Galveston was considered the Wall Street of the South and was already a premier tourist destination. The city was beautiful and wealthy and was hit by a catastrophic hurricane with no seawall to protect it. The loss of life is considered to be totaled somewhere between 6,000 and 12,000 people. This talk and tour starts at the Galveston County Museum and provides a historical look at the storm. During the walking tour of the historic district, stories are told of events that transpired during the storm and recovery process.
