EXPERIENCE

Live an ultimate experience visiting different Zapotec families and learning the process of each one of their ancestral handicrafts. We’ll visit 5 different places around the Valley of Oaxaca. Where in each one of the places you’ll learn about the history and evolution of each pieces. How they’re made and even participate in the process.

We’ll visit small female led familes that welcome us into their homes and show us the beauty and hard work inside their skills.

We will visit Teotitlan del Valle, a place known for the elaboration of wool rugs that are painted with natural dyes, where the artisans show us how their colors are obtained, their tools and how their waving process is done. Inside this town we will also learn the process of the sea shell candles or Velas de Concha, bee’s wax candles that have become part of the most important traditions inside the town and one candle can measure 2 yards. Later we’ll be stopping at the Tlacolula Market for lunch where we can find a variety of traditional food options for all our visitors, this place is very popular for having a huge street market specifically on Sunday. After that we’ll go to San Marcos Tlapazola to visit Las Mujeres del Barro Rojo, a group of beautiful women that show us their elaboration process of the red pottery that have been used for hundreds of years in the traditional local kitchens. Last we’ll visit a small female owned distillery where you’ll learn of the making of our popular mezcal and have a taste of their varieties.
