We start our journey with one of the UNESCO wonders of the world located in the Yucatan, Mexico. cenotes. Experience Mayan archaeology at its best! The site is large so please bring good shoes and a hat for the sun. Our guide will show you how one of the most important ruins in Mexico was once populated by Mayans and how they amazingly followed the seasons, their calendar systems, and the gods they worshipped.
Kukulcan the serpent god descends down the main temple twice a year on the equinox. On March 21st and September 21st, many ancient civilizations including other Mayan cities like Dzibilchaltun have events related to these dates. If this is one of the times you would like to see Chichen Itza please book in advance as it’s a very popular date.
In Valladolid we take a short stop on the way back and spend an hour at a wonderful local honey producing location, where we will take a guided tour of the site and even taste some local and non local honey. The yucatan and area is where the majority of the honey in our region is produced and supporting and enjoying these eco business not only is fun, but intersting and yummy as well.
Along the return we make a stop at the town of Valladolid. The town itself is a beautiful example of colonial Mexico. The church and square a locals hangout spot. All around there are little tourist shops and we encourage you to pick up a bottle of our local honey liquier, called xtabentun. We also will enjoy lunch and a local resturaunt, designed in a traditional hacienda style. The food is a fabulous example of the regional cuisine and a variety of fresh local juices are available as well as a cold mexican beer, or an icy margarita.
