EXPERIENCE

The day starts when you are met at your local place of lodging and a short visit to the Museum of Geology at the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology. Here you will get a taste of the Badlands and begin to understand their geology and history. Today’s journey begins in your mind, and what the mind does not know – the eye cannot see. This museum visit will prepare you to see all that the day has to offer.

Then we drive to that “Monument to Free Enterprise” called the Wall Drug Store. It is an American Success Story and a family’s dream come true. This is a worthwhile visit for shopping, food and local history and culture.

The Cold War was a period of world history we should never forget. The battles were fought on many fronts. One front was the Minuteman Missile Bases sprinkled across the central plains of the U.S.A. Visit a preserved missile silo and the National Historic Sites’ Visitor Center to sharpen your understanding of this ongoing effort to preserve peace through vigilance, readiness and strength.

Next is the star of the show: Badlands National Park. Here is where we spend the bulk of our time. You will be offered many choices for stops and activities: scenic overlooks, short or longer hikes, the park’s Visitor Center, photography, wildlife viewing, shopping and spontaneous moments of surprise are yours to enjoy. This park has a way of preparing your inner self for a special experience. You may find yourself having “a little chat with your soul”. We highly recommend it, and we will take time for that as well.

The final leg of the journey takes us back to your place of lodging in time for relaxation, memories and an evening meal.
