FITZGERALDS & PACHANKA MUSIC CULTURE PRESENT:MameyJulin Pujols Quall is a Dominican-American pianist and keyboardist, improviser,composer and educator from Chicago who has performed classical and jazz repertoirethroughout the continental United States as well as in the Dominican Republic, Spain,Belgium, Puerto Rico and Mexico. A classically trained artist, Peabody Conservatorygraduate, and DePaul University National Concerto Competition First Prize Winner, theirwork has found a home in jazz performance, improvisation and cross-culturalcollaboration since developing experimental collaborative programs as a foundingmember of the Peabody Improvisers Collective. They are a collaborator with ChicagosElastic Arts Freedom From and Freedom To improvisation series, a Discoveries curatorat Fulcrum Point New Music Project, and a 2025 National Association of Latino Arts andCulture Institute Fellow. Julin has been lead instructor at the Segundo Ruiz BelvisCultural Center After School Matters summer program and is currently an accompanistat The Joffrey Ballets Grainger Academy. They are the host of The Changes, atrilingual interview show presenting local and international musicians on Lumpen Radio.Julins compositions are central to two projects they direct: Julin and Friends, aconcert series running since 2022 at The Jazz Showcase, featuring guest artists suchas Corey Wilkes, Lorin Benedict, Levi Lu, Brandon Woody, Kweku Sumbry, LenardSimpson, Vincent Davis and Marques Carroll, and Mamey, a jazz project founded in2023 centering on Dominico-Haitian music. Mamey has performed throughout Chicago including at the Old Town School of FolkMusic and Palmer Square Park for Night Out in The Parks. The group completed aspring of 2024 South Arts Jazz Tour of the East Coast and a 2025 tour of the EastCoast and the Caribbean and will release its debut album in early 2026 thanks to aPathways to Jazz grant. Julin completed a 2024 Banff Center for the Arts Jazz andSonic Arts composition residency, released the single Rothko; Tlaloc and Totec withCarrier Records in 2023, and most recently had their composition ChordPrelude/Moriviv premiere at the DiMenna Center for New and Classical Music duringthe 2024 Yarn/Wire Institute Festival in New York.
