Join us for a dinner and dialogue with Dr. Jessica Gordon Nembhard, author of Collective Courage

In 2023, the Kheprw Institute hosted a community book study of Collective Courage by Dr. Jessica Gordon Nembhard, and were fortunate enough to have Dr. Gordon Nembhard join us to help facilitate that conversation series. This was during the early years of the COVID-19 pandemic, a time when many people were introduced to the importance of collective action and cooperative living as their communities worked to adapt the reality of a global pandemic, and to fill in the gaps left by some of our major institutions. Through this study we learned about the three historic waves of cooperative organizing among Black Americans, gaining a deep insight into the ways that our communities have come together in light of challenging political, economic, and social circumstances.

Now, in celebration of the publication of Collective Courage’s 10th anniversary edition, and in recognition of the challenges of our current political moment, we return to Collective Courage to help remind us of the path forward. As we continue our community’s study of this crucial text, we are honored to have Dr. Gordon Nembhard join us in-person at the Alkhemy Community Wealth Building Center for a night of conversation and community building. Join us for dinner as we discuss the challenges and opportunities our communities face during this unique moment in history, and work towards a collective understanding of what it means to be a part of the fourth wave of Black Cooperative organizing in America.
