The Bloom Business Development Training Program for Doulas equips doulas and other care workers with the skills and knowledge to build successful doula practices and effectively support their clients. We empower entrepreneurs to build and grow businesses that align with their values, foster genuine connections, and contribute positively to their communities. This training empowers entrepreneurs to create businesses that not only thrive financially but also make a positive impact on the world. By integrating authenticity, ethical practices, and community-building into business strategies, participants can build meaningful connections, foster trust, and contribute to a more conscious and compassionate business environment.
Program Overview
Our goal is to empower doulas with business skills and strategies to enhance their professional success and client support. A well-rounded business development training program for doulas not only enhances their entrepreneurial skills but also ensures they can provide exceptional support to expecting families. With a focus on marketing, fostering client relationships, legal considerations, and professional growth, doulas can build thriving practices that positively impact maternal and infant health outcomes and allow them to thrive as business owners.

From the global maternal health and education platform that brought you the Mama Glow Doula Professional Training Program, comes a new offering for birth professionals that you don’t want to miss. Whether you’re just starting out on your doula journey or you’ve been in practice for awhile, there are many ways to advance and market your business to stand out as a provider.
Business Pitch Competition 
The Mama Glow Bloom Business Development Training Program for Doulas is unique in that it engages business leaders and provides you with creative and values-aligned skills to take your doula business to the next level. As a part of the business training program, you will have the opportunity to participate in a formal business pitch competition where your pitch will be judged by prominent business leaders who will provide you with valuable feedback. The winner of the pitch competition will receive a cash prize of $5,000 to kick start or advance their venture.

We hope you can join us! This program is open to all individuals exploring and expanding their career path in birth work. This is a professional training program and upon completion of the course, students will receive a certificate. 
Course Logistics
Starting Tuesday, November 12th – December 19th, 2024 6:00-8:30pm ET.

This course meets online twice weekly via zoom – Tuesdays & Thursdays, 2.5 hours each day. 
Sessions will be recorded for replay during the duration of the course.

Training Program Syllabus
Session 1 – Tuesday, Nov 12th: Introduction to Doula Business Development
In this intro session, we will review the role and professional responsibilities of a birth worker. Then, we will do a deeper dive into soulful and heart-centered business practices and explore the significance of authenticity in business practice. We will help you develop a business mindset and entrepreneurial spirit and define personal and professional goals as a doula.

Session 2 – Thursday, Nov 14th: Clarifying Your Purpose and Vision
Here, we focus on identifying your personal values and how they align with business goals. We will help you develop a vision statement that reflects your values and mission. We will finish the session by helping you identify your ideal customer avatar by creating a detailed profile of the ideal customer for a product or service.

Session 3 – Tuesday, Nov 19th: Legal and Ethical Considerations
In this session, we will do an in depth exploration of legal considerations for practicing as a doula including certifications and liability insurance. We also explore professional development standards and the best ethical practices in client care. Then we will guide you in contract development. We will also prepare you for working with insurance companies as well as Medicaid. 

Session 4 – Thursday, Nov 21st:  Conscious Branding & Marketing
Here, we explore what it means to develop a personal brand and the importance of having a unique value proposition as a doula. We will equip you with skills to develop your personal brand through your in person and digital presence and help you to develop a comprehensive marketing plan and outreach to the communities that you want to serve. We will explore how to develop content that resonates with your audience’s values and aspirations.

Session 5 – Tuesday, Dec 3rd: Client Communication and Relationship Building  
This in session we will help you develop trategies for building strong, trusting relationships with clients, setting expectations and boundaries for client interactions. We will explore approaches to sales that prioritize relationships and mutual benefit and we will help you learn how to seal the deal and close with clients.

Session 6 – Thursday, Dec 5th: Business Operations, Sustainable Growth and Financial Management 
Every business starts with a vision, which is distilled and communicated through a business plan. In this session, we’ll walk you through how to write a business plan that you can stick to and help guide your operations as you get started. When you’re running a small business, understanding the basics of finance is crucial. We also teach you how to identify revenue streams, understand your cash flow, and plan and forecast for potential growth or challenges.

Session 7 – Tuesday, Dec 10th: Networking and Collaboration: Nurturing Relationships and Community
As a heart centered entrepreneur, it’s critical to build your team and your professional community. Here, we show you how to, establish relationships with healthcare providers, midwives, and other professionals, connect with organizations with shared values and interests, and explore collaborative opportunities within the birth and healthcare communities. 

Session 8 – Thursday, Dec 12th: Professional Development, Self-Care and Personal Growth
As a small business owner, it’s important to commit to continuous personal and professional growth. In this session, we will complete your business plan, look at real-life business scenarios, explore advanced training options and certifications for doulas and provide you with techniques for managing stress and maintaining wellbeing as you build your business. This is your final session before the pitch competition. 

Sessions 9 & 10 – Tuesday, Dec 17th and Thursday, Dec 19th: Business Pitch Competition
We will conclude the business training program with the Mama Glow Business Pitch Competition, where you will have the opportunity to present your heart centered doula business plan to a group of prominent business leaders who will provide you with valuable feedback and insights. The winner of the pitch competition will receive a cash prize of $5,000 to kick start their venture.

No Prerequisites: This course is available to everyone regardless of background.
