Toronto-based singer-songwriter Mita Baruah presents a multilingual concert, singing in Assamese, Hindi and Bengali, with narrations in English. With roots in Assamese folk and Hindustani classical traditions, Mita creates original music that is happy and upbeat. Living in Toronto for 25 years she has developed a love for jazz, blues and contemporary styles. Her creations weave together experiences from her home country and Canada. Bhupen Hazarika was a musical genius and a legend in the Indian subcontinent. He is widely known for his powerful songs, the instant magic of his voice and meaningful lyrics. He was also a poet, filmmaker, visual artist, thinker and philosopher from Assam, India. He continues to inspire generations of musicians like Mita. Through her homage, Mita will showcase facets of this legend in an evening full of music, visuals and live interaction. Eastern and western musical traditions will come together in tribute to Hazarika?s world outlook. Not to be missed!
