The NEW Musical exploring Pete Rose’s battles on and off the field. Is America’s all time hitter deserving of a second chance?

Pete Rose. People love him or hate him. Think he got the bum’s rush or is the bum. He is the undeniable hitting champion of baseball, beating Ty Cobb’s record. But he has a lifetime ban from ever being recognized in MLB’s Hall of Fame, although over twenty items of his ARE enshrined there. Charlie Hu$tle is a brand new musical from composer Neil Berg, (The 12, Grumpy Old Men) and Ryan Noggle (The Neighborhood, Saturday Night Live).

This musical is moving, frustrating, contradictory and complicated — just like the man. With a compelling, contemporary score and a script written by a Los Angeles screenwriter, this show will leave you pondering the questions: How do we judge our heroes? Does Rose’s punishment fit his crime? Do we have double standards – do as I say, not as I do?

Oakland Community College is proud to be staging the first production and be working directly with the creators on the story and message for this show.

This show uniquely integrates hearing actors from OCC’s Theatre Program along with signing actors from OCC’s Sign Language Interpreter Program, supervised by qualified mentors.

Interpretation for the production is provided by interpreting interns through a supervised clinical experience partnership between the Oakland Community College Theatre Program and the Sign Language Interpreter Program. Student supervision follows the requirements of the State of Michigan Deaf Person’s Interpreter Act and the Memo of Understanding between the Michigan Division on Deaf, DeafBlind, and Hard of Hearing and the Michigan Interpreter Education Programs. Further, hearing and Deaf interpreters who are experienced performers provided supervision, mentoring, and language modeling to the students in preparation for and through these performances.

To request accommodations for DeafBlind access, please contact Diana Campbell at least 48 hours in advance at dsoupo@gmail.com. Make sure to include which date you are attending the show, and what type of accommodations are needed.

Masks are no longer required on OCC campuses, however, we do ask if you are feeling unwell, please stay home for the health and safety of our audiences, cast and crew.
