An Evening of Smokin’ Jazz with Huck Tritsch, Myles Wilson, Nisarg Shah at Elk Creek Cafe + Aleworks – Millheim, PA
Huck Tritsch and Myles Wilson return to the Elk Creek Cafe, joined by tenor saxophonist Nisarg Shah. In the trio format favored by the recently departed Sonny Rollins, expect some of the Master’s fire!
These up and coming musicians met at Temple University, where they’ve studied under the likes of Tim Warfield, Dick Oatts, Matt Brewer, and Justin Faulkner. They share a passion both for the jazz tradition and for uncharted musical exploration, creating a style that is simultaneously grounded and familiar, yet fresh and exciting. Their set will feature well-loved classics, jazz standards, original compositions, and more.
Huck Tritsch is a jazz drummer and multi-instrumentalist from Millheim PA. He got his start playing classical violin and traditional old-time fiddle music, but picked up drums soon after. He found a passion for jazz music studying under local legend Kevin Sims. He participated in the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association All-State Jazz Festival, and was recognized as a winner of the prestigious YoungArts National Competition in Jazz Percussion. Alongside his brother Gus, he tours the east coast with the Wild Shoats, an alt-folk outfit who are releasing their second studio album in June. He is now continuing his studies of jazz percussion at Temple University under the direction of trumpet master Terrel Stafford.
Myles Wilson is a jazz bassist based in Philadelphia. He attended the Las Vegas Academy of the Performing Arts, where he majored in jazz and gained experience playing bass in ensembles of various sizes. As a member of the school’s top jazz big band he was awarded multiple downbeat awards, and traveled to New Orleans, Louisiana and Buffalo, New York. With this big band he played twice in concert with Jeff Hamilton. The LVA jazz program also gave him the opportunity to play in concert with world renowned saxophonist and arranger Tom Scott, legendary jazz pianist Bill Cunliffe, and Las Vegas local legend Joe Lano.
Nisarg Shah is a tenor saxophonist and composer from Long Island, NY, now residing in Philadelphia, PA. His first influence was his grandfather, an Indian classical flautist, and since childhood he has had a burning passion for music. His saxophone playing is rooted in the jazz tradition, with great influence from the likes of Sonny Rollins, John Coltrane, Joe Henderson, Dexter Gordon, Wayne Shorter, Coleman Hawkins, and Ben Webster. His rich tone and sonic intensity make his saxophone sound highly in demand. Nisarg has had the honor of receiving mentorship from the likes of Dick Oatts, Tim Warfield Jr., Ted Nash Jr., and Jeff Lederer. He consistently leads his own bands around the Philadelphia/NY area while also sharing the stage with today’s luminaries and legends. Nisarg hopes to inspire people through the expression of his music while fostering the next generation to continue the jazz tradition.
